Clarinda Cloud Talks about Understanding a Bully

Hello everyone.  Just so you don't forget, this is Clarinda Cloud talking.  I am a spokescloud for anti-bullying and bullying prevention issues.  (Boy, those are long words.)  That means that I like to speak up against bullying and try to tell people about it.
People liked my author's simple drawing last week, so we thought we would show you another one.  You know my author, right?  Her name is Jodi Desautels.
Anyway, this picture is about understanding a bully.
Look at the picture.  It explains it.  It says that there are things that bullies usually have in common.  They are things that kind of explain why bullies might do the things they do.  That doesn't make it right.  But…kind of makes it easier to understand.  Like, sometimes a bully is abused at home.  He or she gets hit and called bad names, so he or she turns around and hits and calls other people bad names.
Sometimes bullies might feel lonely, like they don't get enough attention.  They might not be popular at school.  They might not have many friends.  They might be neglected at home.  So, they do bad things to people.  Sometimes others laugh and that gives them attention or a feeling like they are fitting in.  Or, they get yelled at or told to stop.  This isn't fun, but they are thinking that at least someone is paying attention to them.
I hope this helps to understand bullies a little more.

Clarinda Cloud with Another Spokecloud Message about Bullying

Hi everyone!  I have another spokescloud message for you about bullying.
Do you know that words hurt as much as pushing, tripping, or fighting?  A lot of times the bruises from a fall or a fight will go away. But, sometimes the hurt of words don't go away.
Please remember to be nice.  Don't bully!  And, if you are bullied, tell a trusted adult.

Hi everyone!  I am feeling excited and I am feeling sad today.  I am feeling excited, because I get to talk with a dog about a cool artist.  How neat is that?  Have you ever talked with a dog about a cool artist?

Picture
The artist's name is Tracy Campbell.  Oh, look at her smile.  It almost looks like mine.  I wonder if she is feeling happy or excited.

Jodi and Clarinda Cloud, thank you for inviting me to your blog.

Actually, my Chinese Crested Powder Puff will do all the talking. He wants to tell children about how poorly he treated his brother, and how children should react if they come across a bully.

Picture
This is Tracy's dog, Indy.  Indy is going to tell us a story.  This is the part that makes me feel kind of sad.  The story is about bullying.  I think bullying is a sad thing.  It hurts people.

Hi!  My name is Indygo. My mum calls me Indy. So you can too!

Picture
Before I tell you what happened, here’s one of my mum’s whimsical works of art of a poor bullied bunny.

Didn't I tell you that it is cool art?  Tracy draws so nicely.  Okay, Indy, please tell us your story.  I hope it has a happy ending.  I like happy endings.

Here’s what went down.

“Indy!” Mum said. “Stop chewing your brother’s ear.” She wagged her finger. “You’re acting like a bully.”

I let go of his soggy ear. “I am not a bully.”

“Yes, Indy,” Patches said. “You are. All you ever do is jump on my back, and then chew my ears.”

I barred my teeth. “Poor widdle baby.”

“Why are you being so mean to me?”

I gulped. Maybe Mum’s right. “P-Patches.” I tucked my tail between my legs. “I’m sorry I called you a poor widdle baby.”

Patches stretched out his front paws. “I forgive you.”

I licked his wet, black nose.

“Okay, okay. That’s enough. Now hop in my basket. It’s time for a nap.”

I didn’t need a second invite to jump in his comfy bed.

“Indy, stop circling.” Patches yawned. “Now go to sleep.”

I snuggled beside him. I have a lot to learn about treating my big brother better. I laid my head on his furry back and sighed.

***

I learned an important lesson that day. Even though Patches forgave me, I know I hurt his feelings which made him feel very sad.

So kiddies, if you run into a bully like me, here are five steps you can follow:

Don’t take it personally: Yup, I know that’s hard to do. But a bully is looking for the wrong kind of attention.

Smile: This will throw a bully off guard because he or she is waiting for you to burst into tears.

Keep a cool head: Ask them, “Why are you being so mean?” That will make a bully stop and think about his or her actions.

Hold your head high: Then walk away.

Tell a parent: If the bully doesn’t back off, run and tell your mum or pops. If you’re at school, tell your teacher.

So the next time someone bullies you, perhaps you can forgive them too! Just like my big brother did. He’s the best.

Has a bully been mean to you? How did you react?

You can read all about me and my mum over at www.tracycampbell.net. She has other cool artwork you can look at too. It’s over at www.tracy-campbell.artistwebsites.com.

Thanks Miss Jodi and Clarinda Cloud.

Hugs,

Indy J

Well, I am glad that story had a happy ending.  I feel happy now.  My author, Jodi Desautels, said that she won some art from Tracy once.  It is pretty!  Thank you, Tracy and Indy, for coming to my blog.  I had a fun time!  I hope you will check out Tracy's site and all her work!
Oh, and just to let you know, I am a spokescloud for anti-bullying, bullying awareness, and bullying prevention.  I am glad that Indy learned, not to be a bully and that he told people some things they can do if they are being bullied.  That is important.  It is important to always share your feelings…just like me!

Hi everyone!  How are you?  My author, Jodi Desautels, is helping me to be a spokescloud for bullying prevention and bullying awareness.  Isn't that cool?  I have always wanted to be a spokescloud...ever since I was thought of in my author's mind.
Here is a poster that my author made.  Do you like it?  I do!  I am trying to show the importance of sharing your feelings in this poster.  You can find more posters of me on the "Clarinda Cloud posters" page.  I share my feelings.  Do you share your feelings?  It is important and will help you some day.
It could help you from being a bully and it could help you get away from a bully.  Be safe.  Share your feelings.

Notes and Announcements:

*I have some wonderful announcements today.  The first is so exciting because I like to share feelings so much.  I am going to be helping my author friends promote their children's books by talking about the feelings of their characters.  I can't wait to meet all those characters and find out what their feelings are in their books.  So, if you are an author of a children's book and you want me to talk about your book, please contact me and my author.  We will talk about your book and see how we can help.

*Oh, I forgot to mention it last time, but my author is giving away a free "Clarinda Cloud Activity Book" on her other blogs.  I like that book.  It has ME in it and it has activities on sharing feelings too! (And, it even has other activities for basic skills like counting, letter searches, matching, and such.)  For more information, go to this post on my author's "DUO Education Learning Blog" or this post on my author's "What is New with Jodi Desautels" blog.  I am going to give you a hint to win the copy of the "Clarinda Cloud Activity Book" on my author's other sites.  The waterfall is where she got married and the name of the waterfall sort of reminds her of a type of corn.  Good luck!

*My author and I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving and a Happy Hanukkah this week!

*Thank you for reading this blog.  Please explore the site and tell your friends about me!  Also, don't forget to share your feelings!
